Ironman South Africa 2008

Its late tuesday night, and Amber and I just got back from Ironman South Africa. What a race. What a weekend. What great friends we made.

Amber PRed her swim, bike and run. 13th woman out the swim, she rode the 2nd fastest split, and was off the bike 3rd woman overall, finished 8th and won the ladies age group overall. Thats a long sentence and a great performance. Considering she only took up sports 4 years ago.

Go read the whole story on web.mac.com/AmberMonforte.

Oh yes, I race XTERRA South Africa this saturday. XterraSA.com.

Visit my again in a day or two…

My last week in heaven

It is my last week on the farm, (before moving to Stellenbosch for serious training) so I’m trying to make the most of the special things I will have to forgo during the racing season.

After my 1h30 long run at 1900m altitude on Sunday, I took the long way home. Via the 2006 Toyota 400 Rally route. (I ride my dirt bike to and from my weekly high altitude long run)

Highveld

The Caveman has landed! The Highveld is stunning this time of the year. We have had a lot of rain, and small fountains are springing up everywhere.

Training Africa style…

I’m still on my parents farm near Lydenburg, South Africa, where I spent most of the Southern Hemisphere summer.

Real training started last Monday. My coach Libby Burrell (libbyburrell.blogspot.com) emailed a training program, now there is structure, and less play. Heart rate files are being recorded and emailed with my Suunto t6, logs filled in, I had my 1st massage since XTERRA Worlds in October. Any eating wise, “I’m back on the wagon” like they say in the US.

Here is a peek into “Conrad Stoltz ‘s average training day on the farm”:

After 4 hours in the saddle and home just around the corner, that last sand trap is almost a welcome sight.
