5x World Champion and 2x Olympian Stoltz joins forces with Human Interest Group

Boulder, CO – The Human Interest Group (HIG), a Boulder-based athlete management firm, is proud to announce a new partnership with World Champion triathlete Conrad Stoltz.  HIG will manage Stoltz’ ongoing sponsor relationships as well as create new partnership opportunities with the talented and versatile South African, known fondly as “The Caveman”.

Stoltz is perhaps best known for his unmatched four world titles on the XTERRA off-road triathlon circuit.  In addition to reigning supreme as the current XTERRA World Champion, Stoltz recently set a new record for overall XTERRA career wins, claiming his 39th victory at the XTERRA West Championship in Santa Cruz,CA on May 15, 2011.  Three weeks ago, Stoltz traveled to Extremadura, Spain where he prevailed against a packed men’s professional field to secure the inaugural ITU Cross Triathlon World Championship title – his fifth XTERRA World Championship win – on April 30th.  Stoltz’ earlier athletic accolades include twice competing in the Olympic Games (Sydney and Athens), winning eight XTERRA USA Championship titles, having won five All Africa Triathlon Championship titles and five South African Triathlon Championship titles and taking the overall win at the renowned Mrs. T’s Chicago Triathlon in 2001.

“Conrad’s success across so many levels of sport is almost unheard of,” said HIG founder and principal, Franko Vatterott, “Yet his dominance and versatility are only a portion of the Caveman’s tremendous appeal to fans of the sport, endemic sponsors and corporate partners alike.  He’s a wildly eclectic and entertaining character with a heart the size of his native South Africa.  Conrad is fascinated with equipment design and has played a significant role in the development of new products at both Specialized and Avia, two of his major sponsors.  And the fact that he’s racing stronger and faster than ever – at the age of 37 – doesn’t exactly hamper his value.”

Stoltz joins HIG’s already impressive athlete roster, including fellow World Champion triathletes Craig Alexander and Julie Dibens and fellow Olympians Laura Bennett and Dirk Bockel. “We’ve been lucky to combine forces with several of the top athletes in the sport,” said Vatterott.  “Conrad’s unquestionable talent, along with his charming character and innate marketing and R&D savvy make him a perfect addition to the HIG family,” he continued.

Caveman qoute: “I’m honoured to be part of such a professional outfit. I’m really impressed with Franko’s professional, yet personable touch, and especially his ability to think out of the box and creating win-win relationships. Of course, its an honour to rub shoulders and learn from iconic athletes like Julie and Crowie. I look forward to growing my relationships with my current sponsors, reach out to new opportunities and continue on building a strong Caveman brand.”

Stoltz just won the XTERRA Pacific Championship in Santa Cruz, California on May 15th, where his technical prowess enabled him to win his 39th XTERRA title.  His main aim is to win a fifth XTERRA world title at the XTERRA World Championship in Maui, Hawaii on October 23rd.

Caveman wins XTERRA Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz, California (just south of San Fancisco) is wacky, its trendy and its also know as “Surf City”. And the place where Specialized test rides bikes and equipment.

I love ocean swims, and even the supposed 53F  water (11C- although it felt warmer) did not put me off.

XTERRA Waco Texas and my 38th XTERRA career win

conrad stoltz xterra waco

XTERRA Wac o- my 38th career win. A close one: Josiah was just 6sec back and Seth 15″

Story from XTERRAplanet.com

[(Cameron Park – Waco, TX) – South African Conrad “the Caveman” Stoltz won his record-breaking 38th career championship on a picture-perfect, breezy, 75-degree afternoon at Cameron Park in Waco, Texas today.

It took every ounce of energy he had to make it happen as just 15 seconds separated the top three men.  American Josiah Middaugh was more than three minutes behind Stoltz at the bike-to-run transition but made up all but eight seconds by the finish line.

“I looked behind me with about one kilometer to go and just saw these elbows and knees coming at me and knew I had to kick into another gear so Josiah wouldn’t catch me,” said Stoltz.

Middaugh, however, had already put it into his highest gear as he was in a full sprint the last mile trying to chase the Caveman down and simply couldn’t go any faster.

XTERRA Las Vegas- Old School vs New School

Caveman at Urban Rage 2010

After fighting the 9hr time change and jet lag that comes with it, I think I’m ready for XTERRA Las Vegas, the USA Season opener. The form is good, I had great legs and won the Vigne a Vigne MTB race in South Africa on sunday, (despite a puncture and a bit of a tumble) but the question is, is 5 days enough time for acclimatization?

I was stunned by the number of 29ers on the course today. The kiddie wheeled bikes make up maybe 25% of the people pre riding today. I’d like to think I put the 29er ball on the roll (I raced on a Stumpy 29er for the first time 4 years ago). Of course the Specialized 29ers are head and shoulders above the rest- you just cant argue with the level of engineering that went into the Epic. Speaking of which, I ordered a set of race wheels and was going to race on my Maui Swork Epic, but when Fedex came, the box looked a bit big, and contained an brand spanking new Sworks 29er, All built up with my favourite parts, the right tires, so sweet! Thanks to Garth and the crew at Specialized HQ.

How sweet are these Avia AVI STOLTZ‘s?! They look wickedly fast – even in the box.

Tarzan is here and he is new again

gert-stoltz-bmw-gs-800

My friends call my dad “Tarzan.” Not sure why. 🙂

As you may know that he has been fighting colon cancer of the 2nd time over this past year.  His plight had been an inspiration for me to win XTERRA Worlds in October– something which I knew would make him very proud. (“Stoltz” means “proud” in German.) Certain times had been extremely tough, especially Christmas and New Year.  The chemo was hectic, he had a lot of pain and he sold all his cattle to focus his remaining strength on surviving. It didnt look good.

But in the last 4 or 5 weeks he suddenly improved and to such an extent, that he has jumped on his motorbike and rode the 2000km across the country to come and visit Liezel and I before I leave for the US on Monday. I’m not sure if it was Liezel’s visit to the farm a few weeks ago which perked him up, (I’m sure she played a large part) but he suddenly had a new bounce in his step, he played the piano after dinner, started planning fish farming and even rode his Stumpy 29er a few times.

We are so thankful he’ll be celebrating our engagement party tonight. My mom is in London for ITU stuff this week, but she’ll  catch up at the wedding on Nov 11.
