The Caveman drives Ford. Team Kelfords Ford
YES, believe it or not, The Caveman has wheels from this century!* Kindly sponsored by Kelfords in Somerset West, South Africa. Kelfords is passionate about multisport. Team Kelfords Multisport club is very active in the Western Cape and they also support fellow XTERROR “DGH” Dan Hugo.
After driving (and pushing) my dads 1988 Toyota Cressida GLE around Stellenbosch for decades, this nippy little Ford Fiesta 1.6 Trend is like living in a dream. It starts every time, ALL FOUR speakers work, it burns more petrol than oil… No, seriously- I LOVE this car. Its nippy, it comfortably takes off (or “launch” as I call it) in 2nd gear, it corners like on rails, it fits into parking spaces in the 1st try, it is really light on fuel (5.9L per 100km rating) and of course, it looks good. Now I can even legally talk on the phone once I put my Blue teeth in. Cheez, whats next?! Voice control? O ja, it already has that.
AND it comfortably fits a size XL 29er (or two) in the back. I’m working on a roof rack for the bikes. Got to keep this baby looking new, since the Caveman will now be known for his nice, clean car, as opposed to “The Owner Of The Red Rocket”.

Victory and fun at XTERRA Knysna, South Africa
Just a quick post to celebrate the unhacking of my website- will blog more extensively soon.
Had a lot of fun at XTERRA Knysna and the Oyster Fesitival. Knysna is a stunning place, and after 20 years of endless summer, I saw that this kind of winter I can live with if I really have to- a week of 24C and sunny after a few days rain.
Lieuwe Boonstra 3rd (in his last pro race on SA soil), 1x Caveman (in now khaki kit), MTB ace Kevin Evans 2nd. Yes, Oakley did clean up!
Thanks to Fanus from Oakpics.com for the pix.
Liezel and I also did the Waterfront Rush for laughs. Here is a sneak peek…
Liezel and I dropping in. I’m not a big fan of heights and almost dropped into my pants…
Trying not to laugh at Liezel tipped over
It all ended well- No one drowned, but rock climbing is for monkeys…
My ride just got pimped
Benno Willeit, Specialized Factory Team Mechanic Whiz and Equipment Manager pimped my ride with these custom Carbon Ti bits.
Does this mean “You have made it”, or does it mean “You’re supposed to go so hard you’ll forget your name?”
Caveman News update I. Caveman wins Western Province Mountain Bike Cross Country
Winning 3rd leg of Western Province Cross Country Champs, this Sunday at Paul Cluver, South Africa.
Havent blogged in a while partially because I had to upgrade my web host, and partly have been crazy busy. Traveling to South Africa, visiting my parents on the farm with Liezel, spending time training and settling in Stellenbosch and guess what? Actual real training. (Well, kind of)
So I’m going to blog in bits an pieces, to try and catch up on news: Herewith, this past weekends’ Western Province MTB Champs, leg no 3:
Caveman takes 40th XTERRA win at Alabama
Picture and text borrowed from XTERRAplanet.com
[May 22, 2011 (Pelham, AL) – The best off-road triathletes in the world – South Africa’s Conrad Stoltz and Canada’s Melanie McQuaid – won the XTERRA Southeast Championship on arguably the best off-road triathlon course in the world at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama today.
“This place is amazing, and I know I speak for all of us when I say we love it here,” said Stoltz. “It’s a true XTERRA course with a nice warm water swim in a beautiful lake, a real mountain bikers course with climbing, technical sections, and fun corners, and a tough but scenic run. This really is my favorite course.”
It’s Stoltz fifth straight win in Shelby County, third straight on this year’s America Tour, and 40th career XTERRA championship victory.
“Impressive, isn’t it,” said Dan Hugo, 25, who finished in second place just 19 seconds behind his fellow countryman to make it a 1-2 showing for Stellenbosch, South Africa. “You must give credit where credit is due, and what Conrad did today was impressive. When he needs to produce a good swim, he does. When he needs a strong run, he delivers. He doesn’t make mistakes on the bike. He’s seemingly flawless. I guess 20 years of experience will do that for you.”
